Size & Fit Guide
Understanding toy dimensions before you buy. Girth vs. length, what the numbers actually mean, and how to progress from where you are.
Girth vs. Length: Which Number Actually Matters?
Most people fixate on length. Girth is what you’ll actually feel. For anal play, insertable girth determines how much stretch and sensation you experience. Length is secondary — many people never use the full length of a toy and that’s completely fine.
Girth is measured as circumference (distance around) or diameter (distance across). When a product lists a single measurement without specifying, check the product page: most quality brands list both.
Girth is what you feel. Length is what you use last.
| Measurement | What It Means | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Circumference (girth) | Distance around the widest point | Primary comfort indicator for anal play |
| Diameter | Distance across (girth ÷ π) | Easier to visualize — compare to everyday objects |
| Insertable length | How much can actually be inserted | Secondary for anal; primary for internal prostate stimulation |
| Total length | Full length including base/handle | Mostly irrelevant for sensation; affects grip |
Size Reference: What the Numbers Feel Like
These are approximate ranges. Individual variation is significant — these benchmarks are guides, not rules. Always start at or below where you think you are.
| Size Category | Circumference | Diameter | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slim / Beginner Start Here | 2.5″ – 3.5″ | 0.8″ – 1.1″ | First-time exploration, warm-up, sensitive beginners |
| Small / Introductory | 3.5″ – 4.5″ | 1.1″ – 1.4″ | Comfortable after a few sessions, building confidence |
| Medium / Intermediate | 4.5″ – 5.5″ | 1.4″ – 1.75″ | Experienced users comfortable with regular play |
| Large / Advanced | 5.5″ – 6.5″ | 1.75″ – 2.1″ | Experienced users who have built up over time |
| XL / Expert | 6.5″+ | 2.1″+ | Extensive experience, significant preparation required |
How to Progress Safely
Sizing up isn’t about endurance — it’s about tissue adaptation over time. Rushing it doesn’t make you more experienced; it just increases the risk of discomfort or injury.
Start Smaller Than Your Ego
The right starting size is smaller than you think. Master comfort at one level before advancing to the next.
Take Real Breaks
Tissue needs recovery time between sessions, especially when you’re progressing. Days off are productive.
Lube Changes Everything
Adequate lubrication makes a larger size manageable. Insufficient lube makes a smaller size painful. Never skip it.
Shape & Texture: What Else to Consider
Beyond size, the shape of a toy significantly affects how it feels. Some general principles:
Material & Firmness
Softer materials are more forgiving and beginner-friendly. Firmer materials deliver more direct sensation and are better for experienced users who know their body.
| Material | Firmness | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Medical-grade silicone (soft) | Flexible / forgiving | Beginners, sensitive users, daily use |
| Medical-grade silicone (firm) | Holds shape, slight give | Intermediate users, prostate targeting |
| ABS plastic | Rigid | Vibrators, plugs; intense sensation |
| Borosilicate glass | Rigid, smooth | Advanced users; temperature play |
| Stainless steel | Rigid, heavy | Advanced users; weight sensation |
